We are just 7 miles from Dorset’s fabulous Jurassic Coast. There’s so much to see and do close by that you’ll struggle to squeeze it all in. You are surrounded by beautiful footpaths, bridleways and forest tracks. If you enjoy walking, running or cycling you’ll be in seventh heaven. We propose a selection of delightful walking, running & cycling routes which can also be supplied as GPX files if you wish.
You may never want to leave the forest but if you do we also offer a large choice of superb scenic routes to many popular destinations; the Tank Museum, Lawrence of Arabia’s cottage, the famous “Battle of Britain” church in Moreton village, the Tolpuddle Martyrs’ museum and the fabulous Athelhampton House & Gardens are all great destinations for a pleasant walk.
A little further afield, perfect for a nice bike ride, you’ll find picture post card pretty Lulworth Cove from where you can stroll along the fabulous cliff top path to Durdle Door to the east or Mupe bay to the west. A little further along the coast is Weymouth with it’s award winning beaches, attractive Georgian backstreets and busy fishing harbour; just 25 minutes by car or a delightful 90 minute cycle ride
The riverside Saxon town of Wareham is 10 minutes by car or just 35 minutes by bike and is packed with pubs and cafes. Heading east the county town of Dorchester (20 minutes by car/70 minutes by bike) offers a range of attractions including the Wednesday market famous for it’s local food and produce.
Enthusiastic mountain bikers will find a trip to the famous Puddletown Forest irresistible (10 minutes by car/30 minutes by bike) or maybe you fancy a swim in a secret river pool? (20 minutes by bike).
These are just a few of the countless wonderful places to visit on foot or on two or four wheels. All the walks and cycle routes are traffic free or on back lanes and by sheer good fortune many of our longer walks and rides happen to pass by traditional country pubs offering Dorset’s famous hearty pub lunches!
